Solutions for Environmental Problems
1. There are many cultural traditions of our city, Nagoya. For the most dominant cultural tradition in this city, we believe it is art. Although there are many other cultural traditions, we picked art as the most dominant tradition because art in Nagoya is very common and has been around for a while (in Nagoya's history). They include origami, dance performances, poetry like haiku, and many others. Some of these methods of art were even from the Edo Period. Even nowadays, Nagoya is known as a city of artistic culture. This title is given to other popular cities you might be aware of, like Tokyo or Kyoto. Another reason why we believe that art is the most dominant cultural tradition because there are yearly festivals that attract many people around the world for the amazing performance arts. One of these festivals includes the World’s Cosplay Festival. This is a festival that brings many people together to see each cosplay and performances from many people who are cosplaying. If you would like to learn more about this festival, please click here. There is also the Osu Summer Festival which shows how amazing the arts can be in Nagoya. There are usually bon dancing events and Osu-daiko (which are drums) performances. With these festivals and many others located in Nagoya, it makes art, in our opinion, the most dominant cultural tradition. -Emmy
2. In Nagoya, Japan, there are many environmental problems that affect the city greatly. Also, all of the problems dissolve into a major problem that Nagoya has been troubling with. The major environmental problem in Nagoya is the pollution in the air/atmosphere in which is caused by the industrialization and urbanization. For the air/atmospheric pollution, Nagoya has a great amount of sulfur dioxide, carbon monoxide, and carbon dioxide in the air. Sulfur Dioxide is a reactive gas which is caused by the processing or burning of fossil fuels and other industrial uses. The causes consist of sulfur dioxide which are the large sources of its production. Smaller sources of sulfur dioxide occurring is the extraction of metal from ore and the burning of high sulfur containing certain fuels. As for carbon monoxide, it is an odorless, colorless gas that is possible to kill someone. Carbon monoxide is typically found in the times of burning fuels in cars or trucks, small stoves, lanterns, and stoves. Carbon Monoxide can cause a person to become dizzy or weak, as well as result in an upset stomach. The air pollution has been solved by addressing regulations of managing gas and the flowing out of harmful gasses caused by factories and businesses. Along with that, work has also been done in improving the sewer system. Another issue is carbon dioxide, the two are completely different though, because carbon monoxide is poisonous. Carbon dioxide is a slowly increasing problem in Nagoya and other parts of Japan as well because it’s so populated, that many people drive cars, yet the engines aren’t up-to-date occasionally. This means that excess carbon dioxide is being released into the air. China had also faced a similar problem of having too much carbon dioxide being released in the air, causing the people to wear masks to prevent the gas from going into their lungs and harming them in the end. Currently, Nagoya only has a issue with carbon dioxide, but if the pollution issue isn’t resolved eventually, there might be a greater damage over time. - Jennifer 3. Nagoya has addressed many of the environmental problems with several different solutions. As for their air pollution problems, they have improved their situation greatly with the help of their citizens. To reduce their high amounts of air pollution, such as carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, and sulfur dioxide, they have been improved by the head people of Nagoya by assigning many regulations and laws in Nagoya, as an attempt to help their situation. By assigning many rules and regulations, the situation has improved, but the entire situation, however, has not been solved. With the help of the regulations, the people of Nagoya have been managing their different gasses. However, the people of Nagoya are not able to fully be able to protect everyone and prevent the flowing of the gasses, but they are trying their best. This solution is effective to their problem as well. Without creating and addressing the regulations, the situation would have worsened and could have led to deadly and serious situations with the people of Nagoya. Their solution to reduce the large amounts of carbon dioxide was to plant and grow more trees or plants in different areas of Nagoya. (For more information, please click here.) Therefore, their solutions have been very effective and helpful to their environmental problems. Some solutions that have been created with the help of Alex Stefan that help improve Nagoya's current state include pop-up spaces and also walkshed technology. The pop-up spaces enable Nagoya to be able to fit more shops and stores into one space. For the walkshed technology, it encourages more people to walk more often when going to their destination. So, providing more technology for them allows them to easily be influenced and encouraged to walk, which helps benefit the air pollution by using less cars. - Sami 4. Nagoya may have multiple environmental issues. But one of the biggest issues is that Nagoya is facing currently is their issue of pollution which is caused due to the collecting of trash from other countries for money. Since there is so much garage, carbon dioxide has also become a main problem. So basically, if Nagoya just disposes of the trash properly, carbon dioxide won’t be a major issue. Countries do this because the want to dispose of their trash, yet they don’t want to do the work, so the pay Nagoya and other parts of Japan to get rid of their trash. Then Nagoya dumps the trash into the bodies of water because the government doesn’t want to pay people to get rid of the trash. This causes major water pollution and it also kills many animals that rely or live in those waters. Some things Nagoya can do to fix this problem, is to not buy the garbage from other countries although this may seem like a easy solution, but it will take time, you see the people of Nagoya do not benefit from the money that is earned, the money will go to the government. If the people actually were to rebel against this, Nagoya would have more jobs, because if you are to dispose of the garbage of the trash correctly, you would need to employ more people to get rid of it. Another thing that Nagoya could do is to put the animals in zoos, or other places to watch over the animals, so the species won’t go extinct. But to reduce the garbage, Nagoya could actually dispose of the garbage PROPERLY instead of just dumping it into the water. This would also allow more people to eat healthier, because some of the areas of the water have become toxic. Also more people will have jobs, and usually when a location looks nicer, more people will move there, and knowing that there are more jobs available, it’ll make people’s lives a bit easier. Nagoya is already trying to get rid of the garbage on the streets by making the residents have special garbage bins for specific items. The bags are collected more often, and this helps the streets be much more clean, because then the streets won’t have as much trash of them, because it will be collected more often. Another way to reduce garbage is to RECYCLE! Yes, it’s a easy solution! Nagoya used to recycle much more, but rates have dropped nearly 30%. This means that when there’s less things being recycled, and not many jobs are for taking care of garbage, so Nagoya just dumps it all in the waters. The issue of pollution has a very easy fix, but Nagoya just has to take action before they lose their chance. - Afza |
