Nagoya, Japan’s history is composed of many things- wars, peace periods, and all these things have left behind multiple, historical artifacts, such as castles, and their history thrives on. The citizens of Nagoya also left behind information on the people of Nagoya. With this evidence, historians have a better understanding of how past citizens of Nagoya lived. Nagoya had a peace period, after a unification war which was called Muromachi Bakufu. This was between 1336 until 1573. After this, many people tried to take over Nagoya, one of them was Oda Nobunaga. The citizens had many accomplishments like making the first mechanical production which is the use of machinery. There is also evidence of ceramics found in Nagoya. Nagoya hadn’t actually become unified until 1889. Nagoya was also bombed during World War II. This allowed Nagoya to have a “blank slate” because of all the deaths that took place, many people had a second chance to restart their lives once more. Today, Nagoya is one of the top ten economies of the world. leaving Nagoya with multiple factories.
Around 1401 to the early 1500’s, the samurai became well known, and very popular. The samurai had many different weapons, ranging from swords, to bows. The citizens of Nagoya also had a great ceramics production. It is now located in Seto and Meca. These areas are now admired by tourists due to such a mass production in ceramics. Around the 20th century, Nagoya started to make military supplies and some aircraft. This made Nagoya a big target during World War II. After Nagoya was bombed, many people died, allowing the survivors to start fresh. But after being bombed, nearly 40 years later, Nagoya rose once again. They were helped from the United States, but had to sign a treaty so no more war would take play. Today, Nagoya makes robots,and aircraft. Nagoya is an important monument as well, since three of the important rulers were born. Nagoya has a population of about 2.4 million people. Nagoya’s castle was made by Tokugawa Ieyasu, which is 5 levels and 7 stories. This was quite a large building and since the castle was bombed, it was partially destroyed, or else it would have been one of the most visited castles, many people find this castle to be grand mainly because of the mix of art, some from when the castle as first being made, other parts from modern times. Edo’s castle was made in 1457. Currently, Nagoya’s government is raising money to fix the bombed areas. The castle was finished in 1620. All castles have a “ring of defense”. The ring of defense is multiple rounds of walls, traps, or guards to protect the center from invaders. This defense mechanism also helped keep the Lords safe. Although the castles were very protective, they were also very comfortable. Most samurais lived close or around the castles. Whoever was higher ranked, lived closer to the castle. Nagoya’s history also consisted the Edo Period which was when the Edo castle was made. This era was before shoguns modernized Nagoya with new advancing technologies and more. It was also a time of great isolation, and conservation of resources because they couldn’t trade with outer countries since Nagoya had locked itself down. During this era, merchants were beginning to fit in more with society, because Japan needed to trade with other countries to get the resources they needed, so merchants or traders became very important. After this, some of the more powerful clans joined together to restore order and peace to Nagoya, as well as other cities in Japan. The Edo period is a very important part of Nagoya, as well Japan’s past. It deals with people battling to take power, which would then have Tokugawa leyasu make a castle, as a defense which was built in Nagoya. After Nagoya was bombed in World War II, there was a massive food shortage. All of Nagoya‘s large cities, had been bombed other than Kyoto. Japan’s allies helped with Japan’s problems, especially the United States. Japan had also lost all the land they had conquered over the hundreds of years. After Japan had been conquered, many of the military committed suicide because they were ashamed. In 1947, after all this, Japan is no longer allowed to have a war. America signed a treaty with Nagoya due to their reckless actions in World War II, many people were killed due to Nagoya’s recklessness. |
